Top transfer in the summer? Bayern face competition for Bruno Fernandes

As the season slowly draws to a close, planning for the summer transfer window is already in full swing at Munich. According to the latest reports, the team at Säbener Straße are rumoured to be looking at signing Premier League star Bruno Fernandes. However, Bayern are reportedly not alone in their bid for the Manchester United attacker.

As journalist Ben Jacobs reported on CaughtOffside, the Portuguese is on the radar of a number of Saudi clubs. The desert state launched a major transfer offensive for top European stars at the start of almost last season, bringing the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté and Sadio Mané to the Saudi Pro League. It is unlikely that they will deviate from this plan this summer either.

The Saudis are now focussing on Fernandes, among others, but those in charge are currently not very optimistic about being able to complete a signing this summer.

The Red Devils captain still has a contract with the English club until 2026, and last Tuesday The Independent reported that the 29-year-old was being considered for a move to Säbener Straße. In addition to the German record champions, at least one other top European club, Inter Milan, is said to be interested in the midfield star.

Lack of title prospects in Manchester?

A transfer of the Portuguese appears realistic, particularly due to the situation at Manchester United. According to reports, Fernandes is struggling with the fact that United are unlikely to qualify for Europe this season after finishing eighth in the table. Apart from the FA Cup, in which they have to play defending champions Manchester City in the final, they have had no chance of winning the title this season. As a result, the 29-year-old is said to be reconsidering his sporting future in Manchester.

Manchester are said to continue to regard their captain as an important part of their squad. The attacking star moved to Manchester from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2020, but has only won one League Cup in that time.
