FC Bayern are apparently interested in a midfield star from Portugal. Are the bosses even orchestrating the transfer to persuade coach Thomas Tuchel to stay?

Bayern are apparently aiming for an absolute top transfer for the summer: According to the English newspaper The Independent, Munich want to sign Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United.

According to the report, Bayern bosses believe they really can get the Portuguese due to his growing frustration at the Red Devils. There is also a feeling that the United management would be willing to do a deal.

What is particularly interesting about the report is that the transfer could also be a sign that coach Thomas Tuchel will stay at the German record champions after all. The coach has explicitly called for another creative player and midfielder Fernandes would fit this profile.

Bayern and Tuchel had actually announced their separation at the end of the season in February. However, Bayern are now struggling to find a successor and Tuchel has impressed with his strong performances in the Champions League. For this reason, there are probably considerations to possibly start the new season with the 50-year-old after all.

Fernandes moved from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United in 2020. Since then, the 29-year-old has played 155 games for the Premier League club, scoring 52 goals. He is now also captain of the team. He played 60 games for the Portuguese national team and scored 20 goals. Fernandes still has a contract with United until 2026 and his market value is estimated at 70 million by Transfermarkt.de.

Recently, there have been several transfer rumours surrounding the top star. United coach Erik ten Hag said: „I already answered that last week. It’s clear that he’s a very important player for us.“

The Dutchman, who incidentally continues to be mentioned as a coaching candidate at FC Bayern, added: „He has been a hugely important player for Man United over the years and has created the most chances in the entire Premier League. So many assists, so many goals“.
