Top pundit believes Chelsea will make ‘big mistake’ with likely decision this summer

One of my favourite pundits has said that he believes Chelsea will be making a big mistake if they decide to go through with one likely decision this summer.

The club are going to be busy selling players again before the end of June in order to stay within financial rules set by the league and by UEFA. They need to do some more book balancing, and as expected anyway, they are likely to be looking to sell a host of players to help with it.

One player that is expected to leave is midfielder Conor Gallagher, with his current contract at the club running out in the summer of 2025. Chelsea do not want players to go into the final year of their contracts and if no new deal is agreed, will prefer to sell them. At current, there is no new deal agreed and actually, it looks unlikely right now that there will be one agreed with no new contract talks.

Gallagher is a bit of a fan favourite inside Stamford Bridge for his tenacity, passion, spirit, and energy, and he is also a pretty good football player too!

One of my favourite pundits, Ally McCoist, believes Chelsea would be ‘crazy’ to sell Gallagher and that there should be many more players ahead of him in line for the chop.

Speaking about the midfielder on talkSPORT (30/04/2024 at 08:14), he said: “That would be, in my opinion, crazy, crazy. I think his attitude to play, his willingness to play, his desire to play is something that Chelsea fans can relate to.

“I think they should let a few more go before they let Gallagher, that’s for sure. I think it would be a big mistake.”

And this is probably an opinion that is shared by many Chelsea fans and many people within the game right now too.
