MIAMI — The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continues to deliver memorable moments as the field was reduced to eight teams.
Here is a look at the top moments from the Round of 16:
Cavalier FC hosts Messi, Inter Miami CF in Jamaica
The National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, was visited by a star-studded Inter Miami CF squad featuring Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. Messi scored his first goal in Jamaica in front of 35,000 spectators who witnessed Inter Miami’s 2-nil victory. The match marked the 230th win for a U.S. club in the tournament since 1963, making the United States the second country with the most victories.
Diego Campos’ historic free-kick goal
Despite LD Alajuelense’s elimination by Pumas UNAM, Diego Campos delivered a memorable moment in the second leg of their series. In the 39’ of that tilt, he drilled a sensational free kick near the sideline. It was the 2,600th goal in tournament history since the 2008/09 edition. Costa Rica is now the Central American country with the most free-kick goals.
Club América’s Clásico dominance over Chivas
The reigning Liga MX champions flexed their muscles over their rivals with a 4-nil victory in the second leg to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals. Club América’s win over CD Guadalajara marked the 80th victory in the “Clásico Nacional” for the Mexico City side and the first time Las Águilas scored four goals against Chivas in an international match.
Vancouver Whitecap FC’s remarkable upset
The Canadian side pulled off a stunner by eliminating CF Monterrey, a semifinalist in last year’s edition. Despite a late PK goal by Sergio Ramos, it wasn’t enough to give Rayados the push they needed to offset Brian White’s goal for the MLS side. The Whitecaps became the first Canadian team to eliminate a Mexican club while playing in Mexico and only the second to knock out a Liga MX club in any round.
Cruz Azul’s Round of 16 reign
Cruz Azul’s ousting of Seattle Sounders FC added to their dominance in the Champions Cup. Los Celestes became the team with the most Round of 16 victories (6) in the tournament's history, surpassing the Columbus Crew, Club América, Tigres UANL, CF Monterrey, and Club León — all with five wins.
