MIAMI – The opening encounters in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League delivered top moments during the September 2024 match window.
Here is a look at the best moments from the top performances across League A, League B and League C:
1,000th goal in Concacaf Nations League History
Elijah Seymour put a bow on the first matchday with the 1,000th goal in the Concacaf Nations League. The lone goal of the encounter gave the Cayman Islands a 1-nil victory against the British Virgin Islands.
Coming into the first day of action, the tally was at 991 and quickly rose with Anguilla’s 2-nil win over Turks and Caicos Islands and a six-goal affair as the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Bahamas drew.
The eight goals in the first two matches of the 2024/25 editions set up a historic moment to put the spotlight on League C. The millennial goal arrived in dramatic fashion, coming in the 84th minute, as Seymour struck the match-winner.
Guadeloupe gets its first win in League A
Guadeloupe’s rise in the Concacaf Nations League continues. The Caribbean nation debuted in League A after gaining promotion twice, starting in League C in the inaugural edition and winning its group in League B to reach the first tier.
Jordan Leborgne struck the nation’s first goal in League A in the 67th minute against Suriname. The goal went on to be the match-winner for the first set of three points for Les Gwada Boys.
The home victory has Guadeloupe in fourth place of Group A following its two opening matches. The nation is only one point removed from first-place Costa Rica.
Costa Rica closes September without conceding a goal
Costa Rica had an impeccable start to its championship hopes with an undefeated start and zero goals conceded to lead Group A of League A. Los Ticos opened with a 3-nil home victory against Guadeloupe and drew nil-nil in a tightly contested match at Guatemala.
Patrick Sequeira had five saves across the two opening matches to collect two clean sheets. Francisco Calvo, Juan Pablo Vargas, and Jeyland Mitchell combined for 21 clearances and seven steals.
Calvo also struck the winning goal in the match against Guadeloupe. Belize in League C is the only other team to concede no goals during the September matches.
Bermuda defeated Antigua and Barbuda in an official match for the first time since 1992
A mark that stood for over three decades fell when Bermuda won 1-nil against Antigua and Barbuda to close out action in League B for the September match window.
Kane Crichlow scored the lone goal of the encounter in the 56th minute and the historic goal that earned Bermuda’s first victory against the Benna Boys since July 4, 1992, when facing off in an official competition.
The two nations met for the first time in the Concacaf Nations League, and the 12th encounter in their history. Bermuda led the all-time series, with four wins to three and four draws, but had not defeated Antigua and Barbuda in an official setting since a 2-1 victory in the Concacaf qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup USA 1994.
Haiti scored the most goals across all leagues
No team started the tournament better offensively than Haiti, with 10 goals in two matches. Haiti leads Group C of League B after a 4-1 win against Puerto Rico and a 6-nil victory over Sint Maarten.
Danley Jean Jacques, Frantzdy Pierrot, Don Louicius, and Duckens Nazon were the scorers in the opening encounter. Attys Christopher struck the opening goal in the second match before Duckens Nazon picked up a brace and Mikael Cantave earned a brace.
Nazon leads League B in the current campaign with four goals and is tied across the entire CNL race with Tiquanny Williams, who has four goals for Saint Kitts and Nevis in League C. On the defensive end, Jhony Placide has four saves and one clean sheet.
