Gremio are open to selling Chelsea target Gabriel Mec for a fee in excess of £20m, but the Brazilian club will insist on a sell on clause according to Ben Jacobs.

The Blues continued their raid on the South American market last week as they agreed a deal worth €14m for Corinthians full back Denner, with the 17-year-old set join the club in 2026 when he turns 18.

Chelsea have increasingly tapped into the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, signing a number of the continent’s top talents.

Gremio set Mec demands for Chelsea

Andrey Santos is currently thriving on loan at Strasbourg and is set to have a key role in the squad next season, whilst Chelsea have arguably the continent’s two biggest talents in Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian arriving in the summer.

Estevao is believed to be viewed as a generational talent, and it appears the Blues have set their eyes on another young Brazilian.

The club are interested in 16-year-old attacking midfielder Mec, who they tried to sign from Gremio last summer and Jacobs has provided an update on the situation in his Give Me Sport column.

He reports that Mec has been compared to Neymar and is viewed as Gremio’s biggest talent since Ronaldinho, whilst he’s seen as mature for his age.

Jacobs adds that Gremio are open to a sale for a fee in excess of £20m, but the Brazilian club will insist on a sell on clause, with Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all interested.

According to Jacobs Chelsea are said to have presented the most competitive offer so far, with Mec currently under contract until 2027, and said to be in no rush to pick his next destination.

Quite what the plan is for all these youngsters remains unclear and it certainly feels like the Blues are just hoarding players at this point.

Even if Mec does sign, it’s unlikely he will make his Chelsea debut for a number of years, and there’s a chance he may never feature for the club.
