Former Leeds United star Aidy White has expressed his delight at seeing Kristoffer Klaesson grabbing his opportunity with both hands at Elland Road on New Year’s Day.

With Illan Meslier suspended and Karl Darlow picking up an injury, Klaesson only got his second appearance in a Leeds shirt on Monday against Birmingham City.

Klaesson was an assured presence between the sticks despite being the third-choice goalkeeper and White is pleased for the goalkeeper.

He believes Leeds boss Daniel Farke must be pleased with how the goalkeeper stood up and performed in a big game for Leeds, who were desperate for a win.

White conceded that Klaesson is lucky to get the chance but stressed that sometimes players need those fortuitous breaks in their careers.

The former White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “For Klaesson, he had a top game for me.

“We barely had to mention him and he [Farke] has got to be really pleased with him and this will give him a world of confidence.

“Meslier’s daft moment of madness in the Preston game and Karl Darlow going out with an injury and sometimes you need that bit of luck to get that opportunity.

“And he has done himself a world of justice today.”
