In the past decade, the Manchester derby has become one of the biggest games in England, especially since the Manchester City financial takeover.

United welcomed City to Old Trafford back in 2011, and for the majority of the game, it was close after goals from Nani and David Silva.

However, the deadlock was broken once more with Rooney scoring an unbelievable goal after Nani swings the ball into the box and from about 12 yards out, which was met by Rooney, who hit a thunderous bicycle kick into the top right corner of the goal.

An absolute thunderbolt of a goal, and it comes in here at number 5 on our list!

No one expected a young and unknown Rooney to cut in with the ball from the left-hand side of the pitch, rifling the ball from 35 yards, curling over England goalkeeper David Seaman and nestling into the top left corner.

It was a fantastic way to introduce himself to the Premier League, and that brilliant strike finds its way onto our list of the top 5 Wayne Rooney Premier League goals ever!
