Ajax is one of the most respected and admired teams in Europe.
Over the years, they have produced and reignited careers and provided fans with some incredible achievements and moments.
Between 1971 and 1973, Ajax won the European Cup three years in a row, something that was unimaginable a decade earlier playing as a part-time club.
They triumphed with a revolutionary system where players in a specifically designed tactical setup, were completely interchangeable. Total football as it’s finest and one of the greatest sides to ever grace the game.
In this list, we have taken the statistical data of each player from TransferMarkt to ensure accuracy.
That’s enough talking, here are the top 5 Ajax goalscorers of all time:
Jari Litmanen had an illustrious career playing for the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool. However, his best days came at Ajax, where he scored 133 goals in 255 games.
Throughout that time, the Finnish striker picked up the following honours:
The 1994/95 Champions League win saw a phenomenal Ajax side defeat the likes of Bayern Munich and AC Milan, with Litmanen finishing the second top scorer of the competition, scoring six tournament goals.
Marco van Basten was one of the few players to be very loyal in their career. Playing for two clubs, Van Basten tallied a fantastic goalscoring record for AC Milan but most notably for Ajax.
Van Basten went on to win the Balon d’Or three times in four years during his time with AC Milan.
However, he wasn’t shy of trophies at Ajax either, winning:
Van Basten also won nine top goalscorer awards, with four of these coming at Ajax.
His best season in an Ajax shirt came in the 1985/86 season when he scored 37 league goals.
Ruud Geels spent the majority of his career playing in the Eredivisie, with most of his goals coming for Ajax, hitting 132 goals in just 139 games.
Geels dominated the Dutch league in the 70s, with him winning three consecutive top scorer awards in 1974/75, 1975/76 and 1976/77 seasons.
Along with his achievement, he also won a couple of trophies while being a part of the Ajax team:
Geels’ other top scorer awards came in 1977/78 and the 1980/81 campaign.
One of the most underrated forwards of all time, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, tallied an incredible goalscoring record during the five years he played at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
His goals brought success for Ajax, lifting:
During his time at Ajax, Huntelaar won two Eredivisie top scorers in three years, scoring 33 goals in both campaigns.
During his successful career, Huntelaar scored 366 goals in 662 games.
Of course it had to be the legendary Johan Cruyff at number one.
The three-time Balon d’Or winner didn’t only cement himself as one of the greatest players of all time, and the greatest product from the Ajax academy.
Cruyff’s time at Ajax was so impactful that after he passed away, Ajax renamed their stadium the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
Cruyff was pivotal in Ajax’s glory days in the 60s and 70s, winning 18 trophies with Ajax which included:
