Burnley manager Sean Dyche speaks about Tottenham Hotspur before Carabao Cup fixture and gives Maxwel Cornet injury update

In a press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup last 16 tie (h/t Lancs Live), Burnley manager Sean Dyche gave his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur and their intent for the upcoming game.

The Clarets have struggled in the Premier League this season. They haven’t managed a single victory in England’s top flight this season and the Carabao Cup campaign could help bring them some joy. Dyche’s men have faced Rochdale A.F.C. and Newcastle United in their last two Cup encounters.

The Lilwyhites could be a much tougher opponent as opposed to their previous fixtures in the domestic competition. Spurs themselves have had a topsy turvy start to this season under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sean Dyche spoke about Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their Carabao Cup tie

Dyche spoke about the North London outfit ahead of their fixture and highlighted that while Spurs are a great team, the main focus would be on their own game plan:

“They have some fantastic players, they’re a great outfit and I’m sure they will make some changes too, but our main focus is on us.”

The Clarets manager also spoke about the injury concerns surrounding Maxwel Cornet. He went on to suggest that the Ivorian footballer has made a good start to life in the PL but should be used wisely after picking up an issue in the match against Leicester.

“I felt at Southampton we could get him off at that stage, we were still delivering a good performance and looked solid. So rather than put him at risk, we took him off.”

The Spurs outfit would like to get a win under their belt after a disappointing result against West Ham United in the Premier League. This could boost the morale of the squad as well as the fans. With the current situation in the UEFA Europa Conference League, a domestic cup could be their best bet for any trophy this season.

The Portuguese manager tried to rotate his squad in their European fixture against SBV Vitesse, but the risk seems to have backfired as the London club faced a discouraging 1-0 loss. The former wolves manager would be mindful of this and may try to include some of the top guns for this fixture that could make it a tough match for the Clarets.
