Jack Diamond returned for Sunderland training earlier in the month but it was just one day that he spent with his parent club, as per a report from the Sunderland Echo.

The winger, who is currently on loan at Lincoln City in League One, has featured regularly for the Imps, contributing with five goals and an assist in 12 third-tier matches thus far.

Diamond has played 45 times for the Black Cats at senior level during his career thus far, spending time on loan with Harrogate Town too.

Speaking about the exciting winger and explaining why he was brought back to the Academy of Light for training, the Black Cats boss told the Sunderland Echo: “It was only one day because he was cup-tied and didn’t play in the FA Cup for them so he came and trained.

”That was all. It was nothing other than that.

“He looked alright to me. We haven’t discussed what is happening with him and the bottom line is there’s no point him coming back if he doesn’t get in the team.”

The verdict

Diamond is a player of excellent quality and he is making positive steps in his progression at The Stadium of Light.

However, with competition levels within the first team as high as they are, spending the season on loan with the Imps is perhaps the most beneficial option with his future in mind.

Should he continue to enjoy a productive loan stint with the League One outfit, then it will be no surprise if he becomes a regular at Sunderland during the next campaign.

For now, it is all about making as much of an impact as he possibly can whilst playing regular football at Lincoln.
