Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos addressed the media in a recent interview with Jorge Valdano of Fútbol en Movistar taking the time to discuss various elements of his career.
Here is what he had to say.
“[In 2021] Sergio Ramos left, Kylian Mbappé didn’t join us. We started the season with a good team, but I thought it wouldn’t have been enough to win the Champions League. In the end, we deserved to win. We eliminated the best.
“I still can’t explain what happened in the Champions League last year. The Bernabéu influences the rivals. I have never seen something like this.”
“Florentino is always right. He told me that I was born to play for Real Madrid and that’s true.
“Florentino knows that I don’t do stupid things … I am not going to generate anything with the press. If something happens to me, I go and say it to his face, I’m sincere just like him
“He has always given me a lot of affection since I arrived and until now.”
“If I have to choose a perfect coach for my game, it’s Pep Guardiola. I really enjoyed the year with him. I learned and improved a lot.
“Jupp Heynckes once gave me the keys to the gym and told me ‘now you know it exists.’
Talent isn’t everything. I had to work, or he wouldn’t play me. He was very important for my career.”
“Aurélien Tchouaméni leaves his zone more than Casemiro. Case was always there covering. Now I defend more, but my game hasn’t changed much.
“I prefer to touch the ball 100 times rather than 40 times and score a goal.”
“The World Cup is coming, but so are my vacations. I retired for my family. My children deserve their father more and my wife her husband.”
“Champions League. It wasn’t a difficult question.”
