Itâs hard to believe that just three years ago, Real Madrid signed Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich for a fairly unremarkable âŹ25-30m fee.
The German has becomes one of the best midfielders in the world, forming a metronomic partnership with Luka Modric and helping to deliver eight major trophies.
Kroos was named in the FIFA FIFPro World11 this week â just the latest recognition for a player who has been so crucial to Madridâs recent success.
And Madrid fans will be delighted with Kroosâs latest interview, not just for what he says but also because it was delivered in Spanish.
The 27-year-old has been rumoured to speak decent Spanish but he had been unwilling to show his language skills in public until now.
Kroos told Real Madridâs official tv channel that heâs delighted with how life is going for him in Madrid:
âI am very happy in Madrid, as are my whole family. We really enjoy the weather because it is much warmer than in Germany!
âPersonally, Iâm just happy to be here because Iâm playing for the best club in the world.â
He admits, however, that itâs becoming more and more challenging to sustain the on-pitch success.
âEach year, it is more difficult to win titles because our rivals also have so much quality.
âBut if we continue like we have been, then we can win all of them. We have the quality and mentality to win them. When we work together, we are a great team.
âWe have won two titles already this season and we can achieve four more.â
With Kroos happy, ambitious, and confident in his Spanish, Madrid fans can rest assured that the German is not going anywhere else anytime soon.
