Sergio Ramos has been highly praised by team-mate Toni Kroos, who has hailed him as the best skipper he’s ever played with.
Throughout his career, the German has worked under the leadership of Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm, among others.
But it is the Spanish centre-back who stands out the most – due to his no nonsense approach to ensuring the team are at their best.
“When Ramos has an opinion, he expresses it for the good of the team – without any reservation,” he told the Einfach Mal Luppen podcast.
“And that’s not like anything I’ve ever seen before. That’s why, if we’re talking about captains, in my opinion, he’s the best one you can have.
“I am more than happy to have Sergio as my captain. I have learned a lot from him and he a lot from me too, it has to be said.
“He is someone who responds extraordinarily well to everything and whose voice is heard by everyone at the club.
“Sergio leads by example.”
Despite Ramos’ leadership qualities, it wasn’t enough to prevent Los Blancos starting their season on Sunday night with a 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad.
