Germany midfielder Toni Kroos is hoping he and his team-mates will be serving up humble pie at Euro 2020.
Die Mannschaft take on France in Munich in their Group F opener on Tuesday before another huge clash with Portugal next Saturday.
And Kroos is confident they will prove that their poor showing at the 2018 World Cup was just a blip.
“We don’t have to hide against France. Both squads are strong,” the Real Madrid midfielder told reporters.
“Before the 2018 (World Cup) tournament, we were made out to be stronger than we were, now it’s different.
“I’ll never start a tournament with the expectation ‘let’s just win a few points’. If that was case, I wouldn’t be back.”
Joachim Löw’s side warmed up for the tournament with a 7-1 win over Latvia in mid-week but when the proper business starts, Kroos says there will no more room for experimentation.
“We have to improve, also tactically. On the 15th of June, no more experiments are possible,” he added.
“If we have to try anything against a team like France, then it will be difficult for us.”
