Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has become frustrated at the club recently due to a lack of regular starts in the first team.
The Magpies star has made six starts in the Premier League this season, and a further seven appearances have come from the bench.
Tonali joined Newcastle United for £52 million in 2023 but missed the entire last season after he was banned from playing football for ten months due to involvement in illegal gambling.
Several reports in Italy claimed that the 24-year-old midfielder is unhappy at St James’ Park and may be willing to return to AC Milan.
According to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope, Tonali is not seeking a return to Italy despite the transfer links. He is determined to prove his worth at Newcastle.
The midfielder wants to repay the support the Magpies gave him. He is a top-quality midfielder, and his frustration is obvious
Tonali has not yet found his best form for the Magpies. In recent Premier League matches, he didn’t make the starting line-up against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Brentford.
However, he started against both Crystal Palace and Liverpool and didn’t make any major impact. Put simply, Eddie Howe wants more from him, and he knows he can deliver more.
Newcastle will face Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and Tonali is expected to start the game.
While Tonali is unlikely to leave the club in January, Newcastle will still look to ship out his teammate Sean Longstaff when the transfer window reopens next month.
The Newcastle home-grown player has now accepted that his future lies elsewhere. He has been a key player under Howe and has a contract at St James’ Park until 2026.
