Milan bought out Tomori for €28.5m following his six-month loan spell from Chelsea and it’s clear that the center back is now one of the pillars of Stefano Pioli.

Fik was instrumental in all matches this season, notably against Liverpool where despite scoring an own goal he was one of the best on the pitch.

Ahead of Sunday’s match against Juventus at Allianz Stadium, the 23-year-old Englishman sat down for an interview with DAZN to discuss several things, as reported by Milannews.it:

On his name: “It is Nigerian-derived. My first name means ‘God has filled me with joy’. It’s a phrase; in Nigeria parents often choose a phrase to name their child.”

On his nationality: “I feel very Nigerian. When it was little, my parents spoke to me in Yoruba, which is the ethnic group I belonged to. My favorite food is Jollof rice, a kind of rice strew; I don’t know how to describe it but it’s a very tasty dish, very African and very strong.”

On Canada: “When my mother was 22-23 years told, my father moved to England and my mom took a trip to Canada to see a friend; my father visited her, they had already been together at that the point and I was born. I moved to England as a child, even though I returned to Canada every year. I have many family friends there – when I think of Canada, only good things come to mind.”

On the national team: “At first I was playing for Canada. I played the first game in Mexico, and then the following March against England in England; they were many of my teammates and friends, including Ola Aina and Marcus Rashford: we had played together on Saturday and then I challenged them with the national team, and we also won.”

On his friendship with Tammy Abraham: “I’m very happy for him. We speak almost every day. We played for Chelsea since we were 7 years old and we managed to get to the stage where we were playing for the first team. Growing up you want to get there but you’re unsure if that’s actually going to happen. I remember when I scored my first goal and then he scored a hat-trick – it was like the best day for us ever. And then Mason [Mount] scored and it was crazy.”

On Milan: “Going back to Chelsea with Tammy? I now feel great at Milan, I love Milan. Obviously Chelsea were a very important part of my life for 15 years and I managed to realize my dream by playing in all competitions, but now I’m very happy at Milan and I’m happy with what we’re doing. Now we also have the Champions League at last and maybe we can win it like Chelsea did…”

On Milano: “I feel very good here. It’s different from England: the rhythms are more relaxed, everyone is always in a hurry there while everything is quieter here. I like the Italian lifestyle: after training you drink café, you take a quiet walk… I remember the first time I saw the Duomo: it was… wow! It was something special, so impressive, and so Italian.”
