Tommy Doyle is set for a season-long loan with Sheffield United, joining Taylor Harwood-Bellis and potentially Zack Steffen in the Championship from Manchester City, according to a number of reports on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, David McDonnell of the Daily Mirror revealed that Doyle will be heading to the Blades on a season-long loan, and this was later confirmed by various other sources, including Rob Staton of BBC Radio Sheffield.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan at Hamburg before enjoying a more successful loan with Cardiff in the second half of the campaign, making 20 appearances for the Championship side, scoring two and assisting a further three.

Doyle, who is the grandson of two legendary City players, Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, features for England at the Under 21 level alongside Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who will also develop his game in England's second tier next term.

On Friday afternoon, Burnley announced the signing of Harwood-Bellis on a season-long loan, and it was also confirmed by various sources that Vincent Kompany's side did not have the option to buy the central defender at the end of his loan. Kompany worked with the 20-year-old at Anderlecht in the first half of last season.

The Clarets have signed CJ Egan-Riley on a permanent four-year deal following the expiration of his contract with City, who are in line to receive a development fee/compensation that could rise to £1 million if performance triggers are met, while also including a sell-on clause valued at 30%.

Zack Steffen could join Doyle and Harwood-Bellis in the Championship if his season-long loan move to Middlesbrough goes through as expected following the arrival of Stefan Ortega on a free transfer.
