Tommy Doyle has taken to Twitter to share a message with Sheffield United’s supporters after sealing a temporary switch to Bramall Lane.

As confirmed by the Blades’ official website yesterday, Doyle has joined the club on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

The midfielder is United’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Certainly no stranger to life in the Championship, Doyle featured at this level during the previous campaign as he was loaned out to Cardiff City earlier this year.

During his short spell with the Welsh outfit, Doyle produced some encouraging performances in the second-tier.

The 20-year-old managed to provide five direct goal contributions in the 18 league appearances that he made for Cardiff.

Having missed out on securing an immediate return to the Premier League in May, the Blades will be hoping to launch another push for promotion with Doyle in their side.

The midfielder could potentially make his competitive debut for Paul Heckingbottom’s side when they take on Watford next month.

After his move was announced, Doyle opted to share a message with United’s fans on Twitter.

“Ready for a big season ahead, let’s go.”

The Verdict

When you consider that the Blades are no longer able to call upon the services of Morgan Gibbs-White and Conor Hourihane, they needed to bolster their options in the heart of midfield and thus it is hardly a surprise that they have swooped for Doyle.

In the previous term, the midfielder made 1.5 tackles and completed 31.2 passes per fixture as he recorded a respectable WhoScored match rating of 6.77 in the Championship.

Providing that he is able to maintain his fitness over the course of the upcoming term, Doyle could go on to improve as a player under the guidance of Heckingbottom who was able to get the best out of Gibbs-White last season.

By backing up their move for Doyle by adding some more fresh faces to their squad in the coming weeks, the Blades will boost their chances of making a positive start to the 2022/23 campaign.
