“Tomáš is a striker that poses a real threat on goal, coupled with plenty of pace,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia sporting director. “He’s still young but has been playing professionally for several years and broke into the Czech Republic national team this season. He’s a very ambitious player and really wanted to join Borussia.”
Tomáš Čvančara said,“It’s great to be here. BORUSSIA-PARK is a fantastic stadium. I can’t wait to join training, to play here and score goals.”
Made his professional debut in 2018 for FK Jablonec
Čvančara was born in Neratovice and played for several clubs in his youth, before arriving at FK Jablonec in February 2018. He made his professional debut for the club just two months later in the Czech First League. The 1.90m tall striker then moved to Italian side Empoli on loan in the second half of the 2018/19 season, where he featured in 10 league games (1 goal) for the club’s U19s. Čvančara then returned home and joined FC Slavoj Vysehrad on loan. He scored 13 goals and contributed 1 assist in 21 league matches, in addition to featuring in one cup match.
The striker then returned to FK Jablonec on a six-month spell, scoring once in nine league games and featuring in an Europa League qualifier. He was then loaned to SFC Opava for the second half of the season, where he featured in 10 first-division games. Following the end of his loan spell, he returned to his parent club once more. The 22-year-old featured in 14 league games in the first half of the 2021/22 season (5 goals), two Europa League qualifiers, five UEFA Conference League games (3 goals), two Conference League qualifiers (1 goal) and one cup match.
Move to Sparta Prague in January 2022
Čvančara then completed a permanent move to Sparta Prague in winter 2022. He featured in 10 first-division matches (5 goals), five play-off games (2 goals), two UEFA Conference League matches (2 goals) and two further cup games (2 goals). In 2022/23, he appeared in 23 league games for the side (12 goals), one play-off match, two Conference League qualifiers and four cup games (3 goals).
The striker has also been capped twice for the Czech Republic senior side, scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win against Poland at the end of March. He had previously featured three times for the Czech U21s (1 goal) as well as 16 times (7 goals) for the U19s and U18s.
