Derby County captain Tom Lawrence has admitted that he has found it tough viewing where the Rams currently find themselves in the Championship table after a turbulent start to the season.

The Rams find themselves bottom of the Championship table thanks to the 12 point deduction that they have suffered for entering into administration.

However, they have been able to pick up 14 points from their 11 matches so far this term to at least mean they are positive points at this stage.

Wayne Rooney’s side have claimed two wins from their last four Championship games to show that they are still plugging away and trying to pick up results, despite all of the off-field distractions surrounding Derby at the moment.

However, the threat of another potential points deduction for breaking the EFL’s profitability and sustainability rules is still hanging over the Rams.

That would make a very difficult situation even worse, but Derby still need to try and keep picking up three points on a regular basis to try and survive the drop.

Have Derby County had a higher or lower average attendance compared to these 23 sides this season?

Speaking to Derby’s official club website, Lawrence has admitted that he has found it difficult to look at the Championship table and see the Rams sitting at the foot of the division. However, he insisted that they are going to give their all to try and help the club survive this term

He said: “I think it’s tough when you look at the league table, so we just focus every game at a time.

“Hopefully the points will come back on the board and we can get back up the table.

“It’s hard to look at but it’s where we are and we will do everything we can to keep this club in this league.”

You have to feel Lawrence here because he would have been trying to perform his role as the club captain and lifting the players heads within the dressing room amidst their off-field issues this season.

However, you can also understand he has been struggling to suddenly see the Rams at the bottom of the table when their form suggests that they should be a mid-table side.

That though should be inspiration that Rooney’s side do have the quality to pick enough results up to try and get themselves back into contention to survive.

It would be an excellent achievement for the Rams to get anywhere close to surviving the drop come the end of the campaign. They are going to need to maintain the belief and fighting spirit that Lawrence has alluded here.
