Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton is unsure whether he’ll stay at Old Trafford next season amid growing exit links.

In a recent interview, the 37-year-old said his stay in Manchester depends on talks with manager Erik ten Hag despite proclaiming his love for the Red Devils.

“It’s unsure at the minute – I’ve got to wait until I speak to the manager and see where we’re at,” Heaton said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“I love it here. I have been part of this football club for a long time, but I can’t lie, I also love playing. We will have a sit-down and chat and see where we go.”

Heaton graduated from Man United’s youth academy before departing the club in 2010 after failing to register a single league appearance for the three-time European champions.

He returned to the Theatre of Dreams in 2021 following a two-year career at Aston Villa, only to make a measly three first-team outings.

Viewed as a second-string option by Ten Hag, the veteran shot-stopper spent last season in David de Gea’s shadow, with nothing expected to change next term.

De Gea is now part of United’s history after the Red Devils refused to extend his expiring contract earlier this summer.

But the Spaniard’s successor Andre Onana is a new sheriff in town after Man United parted with €52.5 million to capture his services from Inter Milan.

Onana’s arrival doesn’t only threaten Heaton but also Dean Henderson, who excelled during a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest in 2022/23.

The 26-year-old’s brilliant displays between the sticks laid the foundation for the Tricky Trees’ successful survival battle, averaging 3.1 saves per game across 20 appearances for Steve Cooper’s side.

Fresh from landing Anthony Elanga, Forest are keen to reunite him with Henderson in a decent-looking double swoop.

With Onana set for a starting berth at Man United, the Englishman could be on the move again to secure regular first-team football.

Heaton has also drawn interest from Premier League newcomers Luton Town.
