Todd Boehly has already delivered his verdict on Bayern Munich’s hiring of former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Seven months on from his Chelsea departure, the 49-year-old has replaced Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich, it was confirmed on Friday afternoon.

A club statement read: “FC Bayern München has released head coach Julian Nagelsmann. This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer.

“Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel will receive a contract until 30 June 2025 and will supervise squad training for the first time on Monday.”

Tuchel could face his former side Chelsea in May in the Champions League semi-finals with his new club.

Bayern and Chelsea are on the same side of the draw and should they beat Manchester City and Real Madrid respectively in the quarter-finals, they will come head-to-head for a place in June’s final.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital made the crucial decision last September to let the German leave, which saw them then appoint Graham Potter as his successor.

Boehly has already shared his thoughts on Tuchel and believes Bayern have got an ‘extremely talented’ manager.

Speaking at the SALT Conference in New York last September, Boehly discussed Tuchel’s departure and said: “When you take over any business, you have to make sure you’re aligned with the people who are operating the business.

“Tuchel is obviously extremely talented and someone who had great success at Chelsea. Our vision for the club was to find a manager who really wanted to collaborate with us, a coach who really wanted to collaborate.

“There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea. Before (we arrived), the first team and academy didn’t really share data, didn’t share information about where the top players were coming from. Our goal is to bring a team together; all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine.

“The reality of our decision was that we weren’t sure that Thomas saw it the same way we saw it. No one is right or wrong, we just didn’t have a shared vision for the future. It wasn’t about Zagreb, it was about the shared vision for what we wanted Chelsea to look like.

“It wasn’t a decision that was made because of a single win or loss. It was a decision that we thought was the right vision for the club.”
