The biggest was certainly the one that saw Milan activate the release clause in Morata’s contract with Atletico Madrid, paying €13m to bring the Spain international back to Italian football after his two previous experiences at Juventus.

Pongracic had been on the verge of a move to Stade Rennais when Fiorentina intercepted and convinced him to join them instead.

The Lecce and Croatia international defender underwent his medical and signed on for €15m today.

Meanwhile, former Fiorentina midfielder Castrovilli was able to join Lazio as a free agent after his contract at the Stadio Franchi ran down.

Another free agent was Alberto Moreno, who left Villarreal for a new Serie A experience with Como, signing a one-year deal with option to extend.

Torino brought in their new second-choice goalkeeper in the form of Alberto Paleari from Benevento.

Genoa sent left-back Lennart Czyborra to WSG Tirol in Austria on loan.
