Today marks the 36th anniversary of Real Madrid's first UEFA Cup. On the 22nd of May 1985, our team lifted the trophy at the Santiago Bernabéu against Hungary's Videoton. In the first leg, the madridistas put themselves in a strong position with a 0-3 win thanks goals by Míchel, Santillana and Valdano. The good result was enough to see them clinch the title despite a 0-1 loss in the return leg.

On the way to that final, Madrid knocked out Wacker Innsbruck, Rijeka, Anderlecht, Tottenham and Inter Milan. It was a historic competition which saw three unforgettable Santiago Bernabéu comebacks. The first came with a 3-0 win over Rijeka having lost the first leg 3-1. The second was even more remarkable, coming from 3-0 down in the first game to win the second with a stunning 6-1 thrashing of Anderlecht. Finally, they got the better of Milan 3-0 at home, having lost 2-0 in Italy. On an individual level, Santillana was the team's top scorer with 5.
