Fierce rivals Arsenal and Tottenham clash on Sunday in the Premier League and Toby Alderweireld believes it could be the biggest derby in the world.
The Spurs defender is relishing such a huge fixture and, following his side’s recent successes, is confident they can earn bragging rights in the capital.
“Everybody who follows football knows how big this game is,” Alderweireld told ESPN. “It’s one of the biggest, maybe the biggest derby in the world so everybody knows it.
“I think we can beat everyone if we’re on it. Against Chelsea and then against Inter, two big teams, we’ve shown that we can get a very high level.”
Compatriot and fellow centre-back Jan Vertonghen is also excited by the enormity of the game and added: “It’s going to be massive. It’s always nice games to play at the Emirates, with two teams who want to play football and want to win. We have respect for each other in a good way and I’m looking forward to it, but I need a rest first.
“They look like a solid team and they’ve won many games in a row so they’re confident, but we’re confident too.
“We’re feeling well and working towards our best form. At the start we were winning games but maybe not with our best form. We’re growing now with every game. Chelsea was obviously very good and Inter Milan now, so hopefully we can keep this going for Sunday.”
The Gunners are three points behind Tottenham going into the game and will be hoping the two teams are level by Sunday evening.
