Manchester United star Anthony Martial added to the summer clear-out list

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Sun), Duncan Castles has revealed that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had enough of the poor attitude shown by striker Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman is coming off the back of a forgettable season that saw him net just seven goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. To make matters worse, an injury cut short Martial’s season also costing him a spot in the French squad for the Euros.

This coupled with the rise of Edinson Cavani has thrown Martial’s future at the club into question. The Uruguayan recently penned a one-year deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2022.

“Solskjaer is tired of his attitude and hasn’t been impressed with his goal production and general knitting into the team this season.”

According to the report, it would appear that the club remains keen on bringing in another striker this summer. Sacrificing Martial to do so would not be the worst idea. Despite all his promise, we have only seen flashes of the Frenchman’s brilliance.

“Anthony Martial is to be sacrificed should they get this new forward in.”

The tipping point!

Among those on United’s radar is Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. A cash plus player deal that will involve Martial has been mooted. It has also been suggested that he could be offered to Real Madrid, initially on loan with an option to buy. (h/t The Sun)

Martial’s inconsistency is a major pitfall in his attempts to emerge as United’s No.9. The Frenchman has now had enough time and opportunities to prove himself at United. Spectacular on his day, he is also abject when off form. Sooner or later, something has got to give and it would appear that Solskjaer has had enough.

The Frenchman came into the 2020/21 season riding high on the wave of a spectacular 2019/20 season. He ended the season as United’s top scorer and was also voted the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year.

But after a torrid campaign last time out, it would appear his time at United is coming to a rather unceremonious end.
