Leicester City have been linked with a move for St Pauli winger Dapo Afolayan, as per Hayters.

The 27-year-old joined the German outfit in January 2023 and has scored 16 goals for the club in that time.

Afolayan previously played for Bolton Wanderers, netting 12 goals and providing four assists for the Trotters in the 2021/22 League One campaign, alongside clinching the club’s Player of the Season award.

The Foxes are reportedly joined by West Brom, Blackburn Rovers, and Swansea in their pursuit of the forward’s signature.

Football League World’s Leicester City fan pundit, Louchlainn Martin, would rather see Marti Cifuentes keep hold of his current crop than pursue new additions.

Leicester City handed firm Dapo Afolayan transfer stance

“It does concern me that we're looking at wingers because I don't think we need a winger at all this season unless we lose one,” stated Louchlainn. “I think it would be pretty disastrous if we were to lose Abdul Fatawu or Stephy Mavididi this summer.

“With Abdul Fatawu, there have been links to Everton, but I don't think that will happen because Fatawu would just cost far too much money for Everton. I think Abdul, just fresh back from an ACL injury, will see out the season with Leicester, or at least until January.

“I think interested clubs are probably keen on doing the same as well because they want to see how he responds to the comeback of an ACL injury. If we were to lose one of them, then absolutely, we would start looking at wingers to bring in, and Dapo Afolayan seems like a reasonable option.

“But to be honest with you, it's just not something that we're thinking about as Leicester fans. I just don't think it's a signing we need. I think we need to look elsewhere, we need to look at strikers, we need to look at maybe an additional midfielder, especially if Bilal El Khannouss is to leave the club.

“But overall, Afolayan would be a decent signing; however, I just don't think it's what we need right now. I think we're covered as it stands for our wide options this season with Fatawu, Mavididi and Kasey McAteer.”

Leicester City face uphill battle to keep their current wingers

The Foxes kicked off their 2025/26 Championship campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, with Fatawu, Mavidid and El Khannouss all starting the fixture.

Transfer interest has presented itself regarding all three players this summer, and it is imperative that Cifuentes battles tirelessly to keep the trio at the King Power.

However, that will be easier said than done, with sides such as Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta all showing intent to purchase one of the three Leicester operators.

Therefore, although fans such as Louchlain would love the Foxes to stick with what they’ve got, transfers for targets such as Afolayan may have to be explored to avoid an uncomfortable situation out wide for Leicester in the future.
