AC Milan are beginning to scout the market for left-backs given that Theo Hernandez’s future at the club is far from certain at present, a report claims.

According to TMW, Milan scouts will closely watch Atalanta’s game against Club Brugge at the Gewiss Stadium to study the performance of Maxim De Cuyper. The Belgian has been in Geoffrey Moncada’s notebook for some time and now Milan are studying the possibility of selling Theo Hernandez.

Having been raised in the Club Brugge youth sector, where he arrived in 2008, De Cuyper made his first team debut in February 2020 in a Europa League match against Manchester United, where he played as a starter.

He continued the season with the Brugge youth team, showing off with high-level performances as a left-back, then in the 2021-22 season he went on loan to KVC Westerlo where he played regularly and scored nine goals in 39 games, an impressive record for a defender.

In 2022-23 his best season yet came: 37 games, three goals, 10 assists, winning the league as a starter, then getting a renewal until 2028. He was also among those called up for the European Championship last summer in Germany but he did not play.

De Cuyper has gathered many admirers in the Bundesliga and the Premier League. However, Milan have been watching him for a long time, thinking of him as a potential heir to Theo Hernandez.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have De Cuyper on their list too, while Parma made an attempt but the request of almost €20m stopped them in their tracks. The Rossoneri continue to scout the 24-year-old, and will do again tonight.
