AC Milan want to sign another midfield player in the January transfer window and one target currently sticks out, a report claims.

According to TMW, Milan are looking for a deputy to Youssouf Fofana and Morten Frendrup of Genoa is the name circled in red. He pursued in the summer by many clubs such as Napoli, Liverpool, Brentford and Brighton, with the latter two continuing to monitor his performances.

It remains to be seen what Genoa’s stance will be. In the summer, he would not have moved for less than €18-20m, with the sales of Mateo Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson then blocking his departure.

Now, with the new problems that their owners 777 Partners are facing, it is possible that they might open up to the sale of the Dane to help them post a profit in 2025, given that Genoa’s balance sheet follows the calendar year and not the football year.

Milan, on the other hand, have no alternative to Fofana while Ismael Bennacer remains in the treatment room. He will be out least until January and then his condition will have to be evaluated upon his return.

The Rossoneri’s identikit is to have a player with similar characteristics to Fofana, who already knows Serie A ideally. Milan scouts have been to watch Frendrup on multiple occasions, and clearly like what they see.
