Mikel Arteta says Jurrien Timber is closing in on a return to the Arsenal first-team but Saturday’s clash with Wolves comes too soon for the Dutchman.

Timber has not played for Arsenal since the opening game of the season when he suffered an ACL injury.

But Arteta revealed that the defender is set to take part in a youth team game ahead of a return to the first team.

“It (Wolves) is too soon,” Arteta said.

“He’s going to play a game with the under-23s and after that we will see better where he is, how he felt.

“He looks really good in training and it’s the last biggest step.”

And asked where Timber could feature in his current Arsenal team when he returns, Arteta said: “Both positions that he played in pre-season. In right and left-fullback.

“In relation to the game, and the players that we have available. We will use him in different ways.”

Arteta also says the rest of his squad came through the defeat to Bayern Munich and are available.
