Tiemoue Bakayoko was back for the first day of preseason with AC Milan, the team where the Chelsea man is spending this season on loan, as the second half of his second spell lent out to last season’s Serie A winners.

This almost shouldn’t be news – Bakayoko was a Milan player last season and will be again this season, so there’s no reason for him to be at Chelsea – but it is news just because of how strong the rumours were that he would be having that loan cut short.

But perhaps there was no option to cut it short, or Chelsea haven’t found another taker for him yet. There’s no point having him parked anywhere if he’s not going to play.

At this rate, the midfielder’s value is going to dwindle away to almost nothing, after years of poor seasons and indifferent form. It all could have been so different.
