After a humbling defeat to Atlético de Madrid, Los Blancos have managed to find their feet again, and confidence was the difference maker at Montilivi.

Girona hosted Real Madrid with an unbeaten record but failed to rise to the occasion when the pressure mounted. Perhaps the visitors played with an added edge after being thumped 4-2 on their last trip here.

The hosts played with incredible intensity during the opening moments, but the reintroduction of Jude Bellingham proved to be the difference in this one for the visitors.

His inch-perfect trivela assist found the run of Joselu for 1-0 and within the blink of an eye, Toni Kroos’ corner found the head of a wide-open Aurélien Tchouaméni who headed home

Unfortunately, Girona couldn’t find a way to pile the pressure as they did in the first half and their three shots on target were not enough to kickstart a comeback despite more possession and passes completed.

Bellingham then ensured all three points went back to the capital after Joselu acrobatically teed up the 20-year-old and his half-volley turned things 3-0.

He currently leads LaLiga for goal contributions and has seven goals and two assists for his new club in eight matches across all competitions.

However, late drama ensued as a wild challenge from Nacho in stoppage time saw the captain go walking and the players clashed. It means Carlo Ancelotti will only have one centre-back available now.

Looking at the table Real Madrid sit first one point above Barcelona while Girona are third (two points back).
