Brazil put in an exceptional second half performance on Thursday to pick up a 2-0 win over Serbia, as they were helped by a memorable brace by Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison.
Vinicius may be more important than Neymar
While Neymar didn’t put in a bad performance, the PSG man didn’t seem to get out of third gear. But Vinicius, despite often being in a 1v3 position, created something out of nothing for the Selecao. His assist for Richarlison’s overhead was casually brilliant and the Real Madrid man dominated on the left wing for Brazil.
Richarlison for Golden Boot?
Richarlison didn’t have too many touches before he scored his first goal, but his tally of two goals will give him the confidence to be the topscorer of the tournament. He is expected to be the team’s preferred striker and considering the creativity he has around him, it won’t be a surprise to see him score more often in the next few games. He certainly has the confidence of the first game now.
Serbia need Filip Kostic
Serbia couldn’t create much in the game from open play and the only close moments they had came from set-pieces due to the size of their players. Despite Brazil often playing a higher line, they could never run in-behind well enough and Kostic would have helped them exploit that.
And considering Kostic’s excellent chance creation from wide areas and versatility, he would be huge for Serbia in the next few games. Without him, they may lack a lot of spark in creation.
