Three Talking Points | Argentina 2-0 Poland

Both Argentina and Poland qualified for the next round of the FIFA World Cup, despite the Poles’ 2-0 loss to the Albiceleste on Wednesday.

At one point during the day, Poland were going through on the basis of fairplay and the fact that they had picked up less number of yellow cards during the tournament. But Mexico conceded a late goal against Saudi Arabia, making sure that Poland went through on goal difference.

Poland will not go far

It was another drab performance by the Poles, who probably went through purely because of Wojciech Szczesny’s penalty save today and against Saudi Arabia. The playing style has been rather dull and unimpressive, with Poland failing to create too many chances and it will catch up with them at some point.

Szczesny for Player of the Tournament so far?

Considering how bad Poland have been during the tournament so far, Szczesny’s value to the team goes up by two notches. The Juventus man has almost kept Poland in the tournament with his heroics and if not for him, they would have probably finished rock bottom. Considering that, he is one of the candidates for the Player of the Tournament award.

There were strong shouts for Enzo to start today after his performance against Mexico and he rose to the occassion today. The Benfica midfielder was key in conducting play from deep, as he got one assist and had a passing accuracy of 91 percent, completing 86 passes. He also won two ground duels, winning three aerial duels.
