We’ve seen Borussia Dortmund play some atrocious matches this season under both Nuri Sahin and Niko Kovač, but today’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona was hands down, the worst team performance of this campaign, and I’m ashamed of Borussia Dortmund.

It’s not because we lost, nor is it the embarrassing shoreline, (though that contributes) but rather the nonsensical tactics, and hapless individual performances.

There’s even an argument for offsides on Barcelona’s first goal, and the fact that it came from a set piece that was wrongfully awarded. The officiating in the first half was objectively one-sided, but that didn’t matter in the second half as Barcelona outclassed Borussia Dortmund in nearly every measurable metric. It was a terrible performance, and here are my biggest takeaways from a match I don’t want to think about:
