Earlier today, FC Barcelona completed their first signing of the summer as Joan Garcia arrived from local rivals RCD Espanyol.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper is set to take over as the first-choice goalkeeper for the La Liga champions, with Wojciech Szczesny, who will sign a new contract, expected to be his backup.
This leaves current No. 1 and club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen in a difficult position. Barça, for their part, are open to selling him this summer and would welcome a departure.
But, thus far, the 33-year-old German international has shown no indication of considering an exit despite the current circumstances.
Now, according to ESPN, there are three major reasons why Ter Stegen has no intentions of leaving Barcelona this summer.
The first and most important motive is that the veteran goalkeeper is confident he can still continue as the No. 1 for Barcelona and has what it takes to hold onto the position.
Furthermore, he believes that the Catalan club is the best place for him to be ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup.

The second reason behind Ter Stegen’s unwillingness to leave is more personal. The former Borussia Monchengladbach star is very happy in the city of Barcelona.
Staying means the 33-year-old can continue to be close to his two children following the recent separation from his long-term partner. Stability is important at this time for both him and his family.
Finally, Ter Stegen has a contract until 2028 and he wants to see it through. Paying it off right away to convince him to leave for free will be difficult for Barcelona as he is owed around €10 million net per year in each of the next three seasons.
As such, despite there being some tentative interest from clubs like Galatasaray, Ter Stegen is simply not considering the idea of a departure, even though Garcia has now arrived.
Only time will tell whether the German changes his stance once he returns from vacation and speaks to the manager and the club.
