Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Hansi Flick confirmed that he would consider a midfield three of Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gündogan and Leon Goretzka against Spain on Sunday.

“It’s an option,” said Flick. “We can consider it. All three are outstanding players who can also play together in midfield.” During his press conference, the 57-year-old also asked whether Kimmich would be an option to play at right-back: “Why would that be in the interest of the team? We have right-backs who can play the position. There are several positions we have options. Let’s wait and see.”

Germany must avoid defeat against Spain to be within a chance of advancing to the last 16. Even with a loss, there’s still a chance that they can qualify for the knockout stages but they have to rely on Costa Rica, who conceded seven against Spain, beating Japan.

Defensively, Thilo Kehrer could start at right-back which would see Niklas Süle shift alongside Antonio Rüdiger and Nico Schlotterbeck dropping to the bench. Heading into their game against Spain, Flick has plenty of options to keep Spain guessing.

In attack, . Germany will undergo a final training session on Saturday evening ahead of their Group E game.
