Three high-scoring thrillers in the NIWFA Local Women Sport Super Cup 3rd Round on Monday evening were all decided after extra time.

Sion Swifts’ Catherine Barnaby and substitute Caoimhne Heron each hit hat-tricks to see off Ballymena United Women, who had fought back three times against the Championship leaders to force the extra half-hour. Megan Henry scored twice and Chelsea Millar got a stoppage-time leveller to make it 5-5, before Sion’s winner came from Heron early in the second half of extra time.

Comber Rec edged Strabane Athletic 5-4 after 120+ minutes, despite a hat-trick for the visitors’ Rachael McSparron. Substitute Dempsey McCormick struck the winning goal for the hosts.

Another close tie saw Division 1 side Ballymoney United Ladies eventually get the better 0f Championship opposition in Camlough Rovers, 5-3 after extra time.

Deborah McCarthy twice had goals cancelled out by Craigavon’s Niamh Murray, before Anneli Moore scored a 47th-minute decider for Ballyclare Comrades.

Amanda Norton opened the scoring after just two minutes for Bangor as they went on to win 5-1 in an all-Championship clash at St James Swifts, who netted a late consolation.

Civil Service reached the quarter finals with their latest victory over a much-higher ranked team, the new Development League side sinking Championship strugglers Foyle Belles 7-0, helped by three goals from Aimee Stewart.

Niamh Adams and Sara-Louise McLaughlin each bagged a brace as Belfast Celtic went through 5-1 at Valley Rangers.
