Three fit Ibrox strikers means one choice for Rangers

For maybe the first time in a long time, Rangers may have a genuine group of options up front, with three strikers now fit, ready, and vying for the 11 slot.

While the chances of going two up top under this manager remain almost nil, we have to nevertheless contemplate the options for Rangers striker, and pick the best choice.

There are, of course, the three possibilities:

Hamza Igamane, Cyriel Dessers and Danilo.

We start with the Moroccan:

Igamane has been the most enigmatic of signings – he’s only just, in the past month, finally started eking his way into the Rangers picture, and that’s because he’s finally fit. Arriving with an injury, it’s taken him a long time to gain a place in the team, and the results have been mixed.

The boy appears to have a fairly clinical finish sometimes while being inexperienced and wasteful at others. He is strong, but he’s also rather short, and lacks pace – he is not an obvious target man at all.

He is beginning to impress some fans now, but if the boy was a half foot taller he really would be something of a complete centre-forward, even if he clearly lacks a bit of development as well.

He does, in general, seem to be fans’ favourite pick now, and his solo goal for Rangers in Nice was a beauty for sure.

Then it’s Dessers:

He’s suffering a confidence crisis – a long-maligned striker, the Nigerian has never been popular with fans – he’s considered far too wasteful, despite the fact he has 13 goals and assists in 22 this season. Those are reasonable numbers to say the least. But there is something about him that fans just never have taken to, and for a big guy (he’s over 6ft) he’s a hopeless target man.

He’s clumsy, lacking composure, and generally he’s not viewed as the answer. But he’s still got the goals scoring 3 in a row before the most recent 3 fixture in which he either drew a blank or wasn’t used. Manager Philippe Clement was very harsh on him re: Dundee Utd and more or less threw him under the bus.

Lastly we look at Danilo:

Fit again, he’s now 100% an option once more, last scoring in August albeit assisted v Utd. The Brazilian has not been a good use of £6M at all yet, albeit he has 13 goals and assists in 27, a similar rate to his Nigerian team mate. He’s not a target man, because he’s just not got that gait, but his movement is good and he finds good positions. His issue is injury. He has not been able to put together any kind of sustained run of play or form, due to all that disruption, so it’s hard really to assess him.

And that’s all of them, the main three alpha choices.

Does seem like Igamane probably has the jersey now but what do we know?
