A brilliant striker at youth level Zirkzee impressed on last season’s pre-season tour.

He went on to score 12 in 14 U-19 league games, as well as four more goals playing for the club’s second team.

The Dutchman is an obvious candidate to give Robert Lewandowski the occasional break.

Already named on the bench for some Bundesliga games over the last two seasons, the goalkeeper is closing in on a first team opportunity.

Just 19, the youngster has long been tipped as a potential Manuel Neuer successor.

He did that claim no harm last season, keeping seven clean sheets in 20 Regionalliga appearances to help Bayern’s U-23 team to promotion.

An intelligent centre-back with good on-the-ball ability, Mai could be needed next year with Mats Hummels sold and Jérôme Boateng not unlikely to follow him.
