Newly-appointed Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel is keen to snap up Mason Mount, according to The Times.

After his dismissal from Chelsea, Tuchel was linked with Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team, before he was hired by Bayern last week to replace Julian Nagelsmann.

While the 49-year-old has the immediate task of navigating a tedious end to the season where Bayern remain in pursuit of a treble, he is already making plans for his first summer in Munich as he targets a reunion with Mount.

Also eyeing a move for Chelsea set-piece coach Anthony Barry, Tuchel is certainly not shy to raid his former employers for whom he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles between 2021 and 2022.

With less than 18 months left on his deal, Mount’s Chelsea future is uncertain with the 24-year-old believed to have rejected several contract offers from his current employers.

Mount was Chelsea’s Player of the Year in each of Tuchel’s two seasons at Stamford Bridge and it is no surprise that the Englishman still has a strong admirer in his ex-boss.

The idea of selling Mount would have been deemed improbable a couple of months ago but Chelsea’s reality at the moment suggests otherwise.

During the Todd Boehly era, Chelsea have been highly active in the last two transfer windows and the Premier League giants need to balance their books, having recently posted an overall net loss of £121.3 million from the 2021-22 season.

A huge clearout is expected in the summer and Mount may now join a host of names expected to leave Stamford Bridge.

If he elects to remain in England, Mount could be set for a switch to Liverpool, who are keeping an eye on his contract situation.
