Chelsea had a rare two days off this week in the middle of their most hectic run of the season, with Thomas Tuchel insisting his players “simply need it”.

They will also get another break next week, the coach revealed in his press conference today. But he insisted that rest days alone won’t help his team, who have slumped both in performances and in results in recent weeks.

“Two days alone doesn’t solve everything. It was good to have, and after this Tottenham game we will have another chance to give the majority of the players another two days off, because we simply need it,” the BBC report quoted the Chelsea boss as saying.

“But for this Sunday, two days alone are not the solution. We have to make sure we are in a different attitude and a different mindset, and in top shape, because we have a big match.”

He’s spot on, and while he has consistently blamed tiredness for the bad results, we all know there’s more to it than that. The two cup games against Tottenham this month were our best performances in some time, and we can only hope that playing them again this Sunday is the spark we need for an uplift in attitude and form.
