Thomas Tuchel says Kai Havertz is his number one striker for now

The fact that Chelsea have just not been able to find a consistent striker long term has meant an almost endless rotation of attackers in the last couple of seasons.

Kai Havertz, Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, Timo Werner and now Romelu Lukaku have all been given their chance to shine up front in the Thomas Tuchel era, and it’s now the former who has the spot to lose.

After a long stretch of disappointing Lukaku performances Havertz was given the chance for the first leg of our Champions League game against Lille, and since then Tuchel hasn’t looked back, only starting Lukaku once, in the FA Cup against Luton this week.

From the outside that makes it look a lot like Havertz is certain to be Tuchel’s option going forward, and the manager’s comments only reinforce that.

“Romelu got his goal [against Luton] and we will need everybody, but at this moment, [Havertz] in really good shape,” the Chelsea coach commented in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.

At this stage, could anyone really argue?
