Thomas Tuchel reaffirms Bayern Munich agreement after Julian Nagelsmann snub | OneFootball

Thomas Tuchel has insisted there is no chance he will remain Bayern Munich manager beyond the end of this season.

After a miserable run of form which ultimately saw Bayern cede the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, the club confirmed Tuchel would leave his post at the end of the season. An initial pursuit of Bayer boss Xabi Alonso failed, after which Bayern turned to Nagelsmann - the man they sacked to hire Tuchel in March 2023.

However, Nagelsmann signed a new contract with the German national team on Friday, forcing Bayern to once again search for a new target, and it was even suggested that Tuchel could be kept on.

When asked whether he could stick around, Tuchel responded: "I have an agreement with the club [to step down] that has been communicated and is in place."

Tuchel went on to confess that he was not surprised by Nagelsmann's decision to renew with Germany.

"I actually expected that when Rudi Voller extended," he continued. "From the outside I perceive it as a very harmonious team, Julian and Rudi. And I have the feeling that they are a good team and complement and support each other well. That's why I actually kind of expected it - even if I wasn't involved at all.

"I believe that the decision is good for the national team because it now brings clarity, stability, and no discussions before the European Championships. And so hopefully the momentum and spirit from the friendlies can now be taken into the tournament. And then they all have to do it together. Anything is always possible in a tournament."

Many have suggested that manager are now reluctant to work for Bayern as a result of the public influence of the directors on the team, but Tuchel does not see that as an issue unique to his current employers.

"I believe that this doesn't just affect one Bayern Munich coach," he explained. "This is the structure that has become established in football clubs in Germany and that coaches have to deal with.

"At the end of the day, it is important that you focus on what you can influence: your coaching team, the staff that directly influences the team and your players. And in the end you have to take the freedom to make your sporting decisions. Because it is written in the contract that you have sporting responsibility. But the structure and the opinions and the framework outside are so established in Germany, you have to deal with that."
