Thomas Tuchel makes concerning Conor Gallagher assessment

Conor Gallagher has come back into Chelsea’s first team squad this summer, but concerns are growing as to whether he will even stay at the club.

I think until the window is over at the end of this month, we will always see these concerns around, purely because he is not going to be a regular start for Thomas Tuchel, that to me, is clear.

Unfortunately as well, it looks like Tuchel sees him playing as a number six in one of the pivot roles, and I am afraid if you play him there, then he is not going to be playing in his very best position and you will not get the best out of him.

It’s concerning that Tuchel is adamant that Gallagher will be competing with N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho, as in his latest comments on the Chelsea website. If that’s his competition, then he has no chance other than two or three injuries at once.

“I’m a huge fan of Conor,” admitted the Tuchl. “He’s first of all a fantastic guy, which we knew, and in the first weeks of training he showed how much of a step he made by having so much playing time and how much of a personality on the pitch he became.

“It’s a very normal situation in development that after some really fantastic training sessions in the beginning there is now a little dip in form and freshness from which he suffers.

“Then on top he has huge competition with N’Golo, Jorgi and Kova who are used to playing with each other but this is also life in a big club like Chelsea. Everything is in its right place and we are happy with him. He keeps on fighting because this is what he does. I think he has everything to become a very important player over the next years at Chelsea.”
