Thomas Tuchel inherited a strong Chelsea squad when he took over from Frank Lampard last January.

You had the feeling then that these guys were capable of doing something big with the right manager coming in, and that man was Tuchel.

As we know, he went on to lead them to only their second Champions League triumph in their history, proving that this group was capable of something big.

Tuchel was really happy with one area in particular that he inherited, and he has lauded the ‘strong group’ he has there and congratulated Petr Cech and the club for working on having such a strong set of players for the position.

We are of course talking about the goalkeepers and the three strong options they currently have there for Tuchel.

The German coach has been speaking to the Chelsea website and says he is ‘absolutely happy’ with all three of his current options.

He said:

“When we arrived here, I found Kepa, Edou and Willy Caballero, and also Petr Cech was training with them.

“Together with H Hilario our goalkeeping coach, I found a fantastic group, a competitive group, a strong group of goalkeepers, goalkeeper coaches and Petr Cech, who helped each other through every single training session. That was very impressive from the first day.

“Now Petr is less in training, and we have Marcus Bettinelli, and it’s again a strong group. You saw in the latest performances from Kepa what it does to these guys and how strong they are.

“I’m absolutely happy we have two international top goalkeepers, I’m happy with the role Marcus Bettinelli takes. Of course, credit goes to the club and to Petr Cech, who saw the possibilities and potential in these guys.”
