Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel would be interested in the Tottenham job if Antonio Conte left the club.

The Evening Standard report that, despite his Stamford Bridge links, is ready to return to the game after a break and a move to north London should not be ruled out.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea in September, little over a year after winning the Champions League, and has been out of a job since.

Said to have enjoyed his time in England and in London specifically, the rivalry between Chelsea and Spurs is not seen as something that would prevent Tuchel from entertaining the idea of succeeding Antonio Conte at Tottenham.

Conte’s current contract at Spurs expires at the end of the season and, while the club have an option to extend for another year, talks over a new contract are said to be difficult.

The Italian, according to a report in the Standard on Tuesday, wants a significant raise on his existing £15m-a-year salary if he is to agree a new deal.

Another ex-Chelsea manager — he won the Premier League and the FA Cup with the Blues — Conte is currently under pressure at Tottenham as the team fell 14 points behind Premier League leaders and local rivals Arsenal when the Gunners won Sunday’s north London derby.

The defeat left them sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Manchester United and Newcastle.
