Romelu Lukaku made a bright start to life at Chelsea, but his recent run has been a lot quieter, and there’s a sinking feeling that the team are struggling to get the best out of him.

After 4 in 4 in his first games, he’s not found the net since.

Thomas Tuchel doesn’t hide from that, although he does debate some of the things being held against his forward. He straight away denied that he was worried about the record breaking transfer’s form:

“I am not concerned as I felt him a bit tired, and then isolated because we were defending too deep as a block,” Tuchel said in quotes picked up by France24.

“I felt him a bit tired. Altogether we produced a very strong 60 to 75 minutes, including Romelu and Timo.

“Both of them, Romelu and Timo, were too far away to help us escape the pressure. That was the problem, but I have no concerns.

“Normally the best thing is that he scores but he is very unselfish at the moment, looking for Timo in good situations.

“And we had him in the situation to score, it was a close offside decision.”

Throughout the whole of Lukaku’s barren run, it’s felt as though the team has struggled to get the ball into areas where Lukaku can do damage.

The switch to using two strikers was supposed to help, but actually neither he nor Werner has benefitted much in open play.

The international break won’t have helped, tiring the players out and stopping them training together. For now, we just have to be patient, and hope to see a gradual improvement in the chemistry between players.
