Thomas Tuchel defends Mason Mount after penalty miss | OneFootball

Mason Mount has long been a target for a small section of Chelsea fans who taken against him, ignoring his immense quality and focusing on his mistakes to try and paint him any something other than a top class player.

The penalty he missed in the FA Cup final at the weekend is exactly the kind of thing they look for when calling him out, although words from Thomas Tuchel should really put an end to all that.

The Chelsea coach responded to questions about Mount and the missed penalty by pointing to the qualities that the midfielder possesses in spapdes.

“He plays consistently for us. He’s a key figure in this squad and in this club, also because of where he comes from. He’s a super nice guy and we don’t doubt him now because he misses a penalty,” Tuchel explained in quotes from an interview with Chelsea’s official website.

Honestly, it shouldn’t need saying. Anyone with eyes and half a brain can see that Mount is a vital figure, with quality, personality and physicality. As Tuchel says, a missed penalty doesn’t change any of that.

The fact that there are doubters among so called “Chelsea fans” is a sad indictment of modern football supporters.
